Frequently Asked Questions

  • Direct Primary Care (DPC) is a model of healthcare that focuses on the physician-patient relationship. It provides direct access to your doctor using modern technology (texting, online scheduling, telehealth visits).

DPC practices don’t bill through insurance and therefore eliminate the constraints, surprise bills, copays, and other hurdles that come with insurance.

The DPC model has the benefit of comprehensive care with a full range of personalized services through a reasonably priced membership fee.

  • Integrative medicine believes that the patient and practitioner are partners in the healing process.

Less invasive and more natural methods are used whenever possible.

It relies on scientific evidence when making recommendations for both traditional and alternative treatment options.

Integrative practitioners spend longer with their patients and understand what physical, mental, and social factors play into their health.

Put simply, it is good medicine.

Dr. Lindsay is board certified in integrative medicine, which means she has completed an accredited fellowship and passed a proctored board exam to achieve this credential.

  • All of them! She has a particular knack for diagnosing and getting to the root of the medical problem.

She treats all childhood illnesses, chronic medical conditions, functional disorders, developmental concerns/delays, neurological conditions such as autism and ADHD, as well as anxiety and depression.

  • Yes! Insurance is necessary in case your child needs to go to the emergency room, gets admitted to the hospital, sees a specialist, or needs to have lab testing or imaging done. A membership is NOT a substitute for insurance

  • In a traditional practice, most visits that are not “preventative” have an associated out of pocket expense. Follow-up visits for an upper-respiratory infection can easily cost more than $300. Simple rashes may be over $100. Pediatrics by Design will see your child as often as you need in order to keep them healthy. There are never surprise bills. If there is a continuing issue, we will address it together over time.

In a traditional fee-for-service insurance model practice, the yearly costs of one visit to urgent care, one sick visit, and a well visit may very likely exceed the yearly charge of using our membership model!

  • We bill at the end of the month every month.

We will take a credit card, debit card, or FSA as payment. Please consult your tax accountant if you can use your HSA card for this type of care. We cannot provide this advice for you.

  • —ER visits and Urgent Care visits (our goal is that you will not need to go there often and that you will see Dr. Lindsay instead)

    —Hospitalizations

—Procedures, labs, X-rays (or other imaging), and prescriptions obtained outside of the practice

    —Specialist visits

  • You may cancel at anytime, with no penalties. There are no hard feelings if this model is not for you. Should you want to rejoin, you will need to meet with Dr. Lindsay again to discuss this. We want to be your child’s medical home and discourage stop and start coverage.

  • Every family must do a meet and greet to ensure that this is the right model of care for you and a good “fit” for all involved.

This is a short “get to know each other “ visit, not a medical visit. It is free of charge.

We do prenatal visits as well and love to meet you before your little one has arrived.

Even if you are a previous patient of Dr. Lindsay, a meet and greet is a requirement before you may sign up.

  • Dr. Lindsay will be out of the office occasionally and will let her members know in advance of this situation. She will arrange for a covering provider to provide care if she is gone for an extended period of time. She may utilize an after-hours nursing service for triage as well. At times, you may be asked to use urgent care if necessary.

Thank you for understanding that Dr. Lindsay is a solo practitioner and also needs some time off and does occasionally get sick too.

  • Unfortunately, direct access (call, text, portal message) to Dr. Lindsay is available in the membership plan only. Dr. Lindsay will provide you with your consultation or visit note and will send a copy to your primary care provider (PCP).

You are welcome to schedule another visit with Dr. Lindsay if you would like, or you may discuss whether a membership plan makes more sense for you and your family.
